Sound Healing and the Chakras

Chakra is a Sanskrit word often translated as “wheel.” Chakra systems come from South Asian spiritual traditions. Different traditions describe them in different ways; the familiar seven-chakra map is one widely used framework.

In a contemporary chakra-focused session, the seven chakras offer a way to reflect on different parts of life, from feeling grounded to expressing yourself and finding meaning. A practitioner may invite you to set an intention, bring attention to an area of the body and listen to a sequence of bowl tones. Words such as alignment, balancing and clearing describe the spiritual intention and personal experience of the practice. Each person’s experience is their own.
